When your physical skill is very good the only way to improve
further is to increase your energy levels through the sprititual
way. You also need to use more of your brain. Right now we only
use a small percent of our brain, but if we can increase our usage
we will increase our skill.
The object of spiritual improvement is to increase our energy
levels. There are four ways to acheive this.
- Purfiy our body. Increase our good energy though
our speech, actions, and thoughts.
- Self Discipline. Follow rules that guide your way
of life
- Detatchment. Do not attatch to items or people
- Steady Mind Power. Calm so that nothing upsets your
mind.
Tips for Siu Lum Tao.
- Focus on stretching out the facia (connective tissue) to
help the energy flow.
- Sink your shoulder and pull your elbow in
- Focus on keeping your head straight. Do not look too high
or too low. Try to keep head level and focused forward.
- Keep hips curled to lock the upper and lower triangles together.
This makes sure if you are pulled that your whole body will go
as 1 unit. You will keep your balance.
Chi Kung Demonstration
Saturday: Consisted mostly of chi sao exercises.
Listed below are the various exercises that were covered.
- Rolling with even power in both hands. You accomplish this
by having and even stance. If the stance is off, the power in
the hands will not be equal.
- Feeling energy. This drill focused on having one opponent
attack and the other one root to absorb the newly created energy
as soon as possible to learn to control someone as soon as energy
increases.
- Moving chi sao (forward and backwards). This drill is teaching
to keep your structure when you are pulled or pushed. You must
react with proper distancing and your body must move as one unit.
- Closing the Gap. This drill is used to teach students what
to do when an opponent comes from the outside. Meaning the short
time before touch has been initiated. One student comes in with
a Pak Da or a Lop Da and the other student blocks with each hand
on the attacker's two hands (one to one) and to be able to apply
sticky hands as soon as touch is made.
Sunday: Butterfly sword instruction.
